I've never sailed before - is this for me?
We cater for all levels of experience at seaskipr.com. We were all novices at one time and the only way to learn is to just do it. Our experienced crews will be on hand to skipper, guide and support you. Our aim is to provide a safe and memorable experience that ignites the passion for sailing, for all our customers.
What should I bring onboard?
If you are on a day sail, just bring suitable clothing. We suggest a wick or base layer, a fleece or equivalent and a weather resistant top layer. Soft sole deck shoes, trainers that are grippy are a good idea too. Avoid black soled shoes as these mark the boat and may slip unnecessarily on a wet deck. For sun protection, sun block (factor 30 cream, not oil please as it’s slippery), sunglasses (polarised to minimise glare) and a cap or hat – with a strap to keep it tied on.
For over night stays, please bring in addition, a light weight sleeping bag and a small pillow as they’re not provided, a towel and toiletries. Like the airlines, we insist on 1 soft hold all style hand luggage as space is a premium. Hard cases are generally unsuitable.
seaskipr.com will provide life jackets suitable for your needs on board.
Where can i park my car in Mersea?
There are two car parks available near the West Mersea pontoon. Both are pay and display and are in walking distance to the pontoon. Alternatively, there is limited street parking available in surrounding roads outside the immediate vicinity of the West Mersea Hard. Please note - parking around the Hard is controlled and the roads are narrow so we would advise using the public car parks where possible.
I've forgotten to pack some things - are there shops locally?
West Mersea is a thriving village with many shops and amenities. There is a Co-op, Tesco, several pharmacies including Boots and a sailing chandler, Wyatts for sailing gear.
